Warmthgiving Weekend Will Warm Homes of Needy Residents
Local children invited to host hot chocolate stands to benefit Dollar-Help.
St. Louis (November 20, 2006) On December 8, 9 and 10, Dollar-Help, Inc., a not-for-profit agency that helps pay heating bills for low income families, is asking area children to help share the warmth by participating in St. Louis' first ever Warmthgiving Weekend. On this weekend, Dollar-Help is calling for children throughout the St. Louis region to "take a stand" by hosting hot chocolate stands in their neighborhoods to raise awareness of Dollar-Help - and raise donations for area families in need.
To kick off the excitement, Dierbergs Markets will host a hot chocolate stand at its MacKenzie Pointe location in Affton on Saturday, December 2, from 10 a.m. to noon. In an effort to encourage kids to run hot chocolate stands for Dollar-Help, the grocery chain will offer Nestle Hot Cocoa Mix at a discounted price at all Dierbergs stores, selling 5 boxes for $5, from Nov. 28-Dec. 5, and 2 boxes for $3 through Dec. 31.
Dollar-Help is a non-profit agency serving elderly, handicapped, and low-income households in St. Louis City and County and eight other counties in Eastern Missouri. On October 1, the charity will provide an initial allocation to each of the seven social service agencies which qualify eligible families to be awarded with grants. Subsequent allocations are made during the winter, spring and summer depending on funding available.
Dierbergs, which has supported Dollar-Help in the past, is proud to be a part of the upcoming Warmthgiving Weekend event. "An important part of being in the community is giving back to the community," said Greg Dierberg, President & CEO. "We are happy to provide support to help raise awareness of the great need in the St. Louis area for heating assistance this winter."
Dennis Kelley, president of Dollar-Help, is humbled by the warmhearted efforts to make Warmthgiving Weekend a success, especially during this critical time of year. "We know that awareness is a key to getting people to contribute, and with the help of local children, we are sure to gain the support we need to help as many families as possible this year."
