Children To Share The Warmth For Dollar-Help

St. Louis (December 4, 2008) – Area youth are being asked to share the warmth of the holiday season by supporting Dollar-Help, Inc., a not-for-profit agency that helps low-income families and individuals who struggle to pay their heating bills. The organization’s Warmthgiving program recruits kids, with parental guidance, to host hot chocolate stands in their communities any weekend in December to raise donations for the needy. Dollar-Help provides funds for use with all types of heating sources including natural gas, electric, fuel oil and propane. The majority of Dollar-Help grant recipients are elderly, disabled or families with young children.

Dierbergs Markets has once again partnered with Dollar-Help to provide incentives and supplies, and host hot chocolate stands on the campaign’s opening day, this Saturday, December 6 from 11am-1pm.

Griffin Arrol, aged 5, will captain the stand at Dierbergs Telegraph Plaza in South County along with his father Rob. “A lot of people like to drink hot chocolate because it keeps them warm,” said the youngster. “When we sell hot chocolate for Dollar-Help, we also keep others warm through the winter.” Kids and parents alike can visit www.dollarhelp.org for more information on how to get involved, as well as to obtain printable ads and signs for their own hot chocolate stands.

For the third consecutive year, St. Louis Rams Middle Linebacker Will Witherspoon is serving as an ambassador for the program. Last week, Witherspoon visited Point Elementary School in South County. He has also recorded a series of public service announcements encouraging kids and adults to support Dollar-Help. The Rams organization championed the cause through in-stadium messaging and a collection at the gates prior to last Sunday’s game against Miami. The St. Louis Blues have also promoted Dollar-Help through a gameday collection, email messaging and PSAs recorded by forward Cam Janssen, a St. Louis native.
