Dollar-Help Soars In September

St. Louis (September 20, 2008) – Look to the skies this afternoon and you just might catch a glimpse of Dollar-Help’s first-ever entry in the Great Forest Park Balloon Race.

Laclede Gas is proud to support this free community event by sponsoring the Dollar-Help balloon, which will take to the air to encourage people to help those who struggle with home heating bills by checking a red box on their natural gas bill.

John Marlow, President of the Great Forest Park Balloon Race is happy to welcome the company. “Our entire event is community driven. Laclede’s participation, and their support of Dollar-Help, shows they share the same spirit.”

Since its inception, Dollar-Help has granted nearly $16 million to over 37,000 qualified recipients in ten Eastern Missouri counties and the City of St. Louis. Dollar-Help grants are applied to the cost of a household’s primary heating source, including electricity, fuel oil, propane and natural gas. The average grant amount per household is $300; for families facing extreme circumstances grants of up to $700 can be made. The majority of Dollar-Help recipients are elderly, handicapped or families with young children.

The administration of the donations through the voluntary assistance of social service organizations, and Laclede Gas’ contribution of administrative and support services, makes it possible for every dollar donated to go to qualified recipient households. Dollar-Help’s service area includes the Eastern Missouri counties of Butler, Crawford, Franklin, Iron, Jefferson, St. Charles, St. Francois, St. Louis and Ste. Genevieve, in addition to the City of St. Louis.
