Dollar-Help Distributes Record Amount

St. Louis, MO (December 15, 2008) - Dollar-Help, Inc. met the demands of rising energy costs by distributing over $1.3 million in grants during the organization’s 2007-2008 fiscal year; a record amount for the 26 year-old heating assistance charity. The non-profit corporation also announced today it had raised over $1 million in contributions for the second consecutive year. Every dollar donated to Dollar-Help goes to Eastern Missouri families and individuals struggling to pay their heating bills.

“Today’s energy costs are presenting unprecedented challenges to needy families in our region, many of whom are still paying last winter’s heating bill.” said Dennis Kelley, president of Dollar-Help. “I am incredibly grateful for the support we receive from all the communities we serve. They continue to rise to the occasion, and these days we count on them like never before.”

Since its inception, Dollar-Help has granted nearly $16 million to over 37,000 qualified recipients in nine Eastern Missouri counties and the city of St. Louis. Dollar-Help grants cover the cost of a household’s primary heating source, including natural gas, electricity, fuel oil and propane. The average grant amount per household is $300; for families facing extreme circumstances grants of up to $700 can be made. The majority of Dollar-Help recipients are elderly, handicapped or families with young children.
